Surprise Community Lake, also know as an urban lake, is 5 acres with a maximum depth of 12 feet oasis in the middle of a park, in the Sonoran Desert.
Surprise Lake is home to many different fish species that includes: Largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, Bluegill, Sunfish, Channel Catfish and White Amur. These fish are stocked throughout the year (Fish schedule varies) and no fish are stocked during the months of July and August due to the very high water temperatures.
Urban Fishing Program
A class U Urban Fishing License is required to fish in the pond. Fishing pond is open during park hours only. 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. Licenses can be purchased from the Arizona Game and Fish Department online or at more than 300 license dealers statewide.

To fish at Sunrise Lake you'll need a fishing license, which is required for anyone who is 10 years and older.
- Community Fishing License:
The fishing license will allow you to fish at any designated Community Fishing Program lake is $24.
- General Fishing License:
The fishing license will allow you to fish at any designated Community Fishing Program lake; Plus, other waters in the state. $37.
- Short Term Combo Fishing/Hunting License:
The fishing license will allow you to fish at any designated Community Fishing Program lake; Plus, other waters in the state. $15/day for residents and $20/day for non-residents.
- Youth Fishing License:
The fishing license will allow kids from 10-17 to fish. $5
- Purchase a License:
To get your fishing licenses, you can purchase it online at www.AZGFD.com, which is preferred, or at any 300+ outdoor retailers. When you purchase your fishing licenses it's good for 365 days from the date you purchase the license.

Surprise Community Lake you can fish for Rainbow Trout, which is stocked every other week from November - March. Rainbow Trout can be caught using night crawlers, spinnerbaits (rooster tails), PowerBait, marshmallows, salmon eggs and more.
Surprise Community Lake you can fish for Largemouth Bass which is stocked each spring. Largemouth Bass is a large predator fish and can be caught using night crawlers, spinnerbaits, crank-baits and jibs.

Surprise Community Lake you can fish for Channel Catfish, which are stocked every other week. Channel Catfish during the months of March - June and can be caught using "Stinky Baits" such as Catfish baits and chunks, hot dogs, marshmallows, garlic smells, etc. Channel Catfish usually lay at the bottom of the lake so you'll need to set your lines accordingly.
