Heron Lake Fishing Guide

Heron Lake is a 5900 acre lake located in Rio Arriba county, 157 miles from Albuquerque at an elevation of 7,186 ft and is designated as a "quiet lake" where boats operate at no-wake speeds only. Heron Lake is approximately 4 miles long and 3 miles wide and has two improved boat ramps. 

Heron is a fisherman's paradise and offers excellent year round Rainbow Trout and Kokanee Salmon fishing and ice fishing is very popular in winter time.

Directions to Heron Lake State Park

To get to Heron Lake State Park from Albuquerque, you'll wan to take I-25 North, on approach to Santa Fe take exit 282 and connect with 84/285 towards Espanola and take the US 84 North. Continue driving, two tenths of a mile north of Tierra Amarilla and turn West on NM 95 follow this for six miles to the lake.
